The equipment listed below should be considered in addition to your standard swim/Running kit
First Aid Kit Should include:
blister plasters such as the “Compeed” brand
sterile pad dressing
bandage or tape to secure dressing
Full Waterproof Body Cover: Top and bottom, windproof is not sufficient and should be fully waterproof with taped seams, a hood is essential
Spare Base Layer Top and Bottom: Should be full length bottoms & long sleeve top
Head Torch: Should have fresh batteries along with spares (just in case)
Map and Compass: Should be suitable for navigating the entire route, you should at a minimum know how to orientate a map using a compass and take a simple bearing to provide direction. We strongly recommend the Frog Graham Map available from Pete Bland Sports
Mobile Phone: Fully charged
Emergency Foil Blanket/ Bivvy Bag: Must be large enough to cover whole body
Whistle: Ensure you know the mountain distress signal
Hat/Buff/Gloves: No matter what time of year
Emergency Food: Equivalent to about 500kcal. This should not be part of your food for the round, but there when you need it
Waterproof Sack or Dry Bag: Should be large enough to get all of your kit in for the swimming sections
Wetsuit: if you are not a regular openwater “skins” swimmer it is recommended that you swim with a suitable wetsuit
Swimming Cap: Silicone or Neoprene is a must, a single latex cap is not sufficient.
Rucksack / Running pack with hydration system or bottles
GPS Tracker e.g. SPOT Gen3. This is optional, but could prove crucial in the event of an emergency
** Note that if you wish to ratify your round and join the Frog Graham Round Club you must have a device capable of recording your attempt and downloading the data as a .gpx file or similar. Most contenders will have a wrist-mounted device with sufficient battery life to achieve this, however a more reliable means of doing so is a hand-held unit such as the Garmin eTrex series. Some contenders have relied on modern smartphones to record their attempts and had difficulty downloading the data afterwards, we do not recommend this approach
