The Tadpole Round covers a distance of just under under 7 miles and is a great introduction to SwimRun, taking in part of the much tougher Frog Graham Round.  The route itself has a total ascent of 795ft, a maximum elevation of 937ft and is very accessible.

The nature of the course means that it is very suitable for younger runners/swimmers to undertake, but that is with the proviso that contenders under the age of 16 should be accompanied by responsible adults and have the necessary equipment to ensure maximum safety.  Kayak/canoe support is both recommended and encouraged.

There is no requirement for young contenders to carry their own equipment and food, it is completely acceptable for accompanying adults to carry this on their behalf (i.e. in a float bag) or alternately have support staged at appropriate points around the course.

Successful contenders will be added to the Tadpole Round Role of Honour, please notify secretary@froggrahamround.co.uk of successful completions with the full name and age if under 16.  There is no requirement to ratify a successful Tadpole Round in the same manner as the full Frog Graham Round and you don't have to provide a finishing time for the Tadpole Roll of Honour unless you specifically want to have it recorded.

The Route

Recent changes (August 2023) to the biosecurity posture of Crummock Water (see our Biosecurity page) have meant that the route for The Tadpole Round now follows a clockwise direction, starting at the shingle beach to the North of Hause Point. The first section is a run through lovely Rannerdale to Buttermere village and along the lakeside to Hassness, followed by a swim across Buttermere to Horse Close. Next it’s along the southern shores of Buttermere and Crummock Water to Low Ling Crag, before swimming back to the shingle beach NE of Hause Point.
